Patron Saint of Children, coopers, sailors, fishermen, merchants, broadcasters, the falsely accused,  repentant thieves, brewers, pharmacists,  archers and  pawnbrokers.

Known as Nikolaos the Wonderworker because of the many miracles attributed to his intercession.
His legendary habit of secret gift-giving gave rise to the traditional model of Santa Claus through Sinterklaas.

The modern city of Demre, Turkey is built near the ruins of the saint's home town of ancient Myra.
